Old Cumin Cheese
Old Cumin Gouda Cheese is a cheese that has an intense taste because of its long maturation. Cumin seeds taste beautifull in the ripened cheese, which gives it a spicy flavor. The origin of this glorious combination goes back to the 17th century, when it was already popular in England and many countries surrounding the Baltic Sea. The cheese is still sliceable, so usable on a delicious sandwich. Because of its unique character the cheese is also common on a cheese platter.
Gouda Cheese is traded for centuries in the city of Gouda and in the summer months there is still once a week a (touristic) Gouda cheese market. It is one of the most famous and most widely consumed cheeses. The name Gouda Cheese is not protected, but is generally circular in shape, has a fat content of at least 48%, and weighs between 1 and 16 kilograms. Since 2010, ‘Gouda Holland’ is a protected name by the European Commission. This name may only be used if the cheese actually comes from the Netherlands and is made from Dutch milk. Gouda cheese is frequently made in cheese factories. A handmade similar to Gouda Cheese is the Farmhouse Cheese (in dutch: boerenkaas), which is made on the farms in the region.
The cheese is freshly cut with a knife and vacuum packed, so we can always assure the quality. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact our customer service.
