Maasdammer is a mild, slightly sweet cheese with a very unique character. Cheese lovers call it the Dutch variant of the well-known Swiss Emmental. The smooth taste make it an accessible, very tasty cheese.
Gouda Cheese is traded for centuries in the city of Gouda and in the summer months there is still once a week a (touristic) Gouda cheese market. It is one of the most famous and most widely consumed cheeses. The name Gouda Cheese is not protected, but is generally circular in shape, has a fat content of at least 48%, and weighs between 1 and 16 kilograms. Since 2010, ‘Gouda Holland’ is a protected name by the European Commission. This name may only be used if the cheese actually comes from the Netherlands and is made from Dutch milk. Gouda cheese is frequently made in cheese factories. A handmade similar to Gouda Cheese is the Farmhouse Cheese (in dutch: boerenkaas), which is made on the farms in the region.
