Gouda cheese is the Netherlands’ most famous product. It is most exported and consumed all over the world. The quality of the cheese is determined, among other things, by the origin and quality of the milk. Also the rennet used, the amount of salt and any additions of dye and preservatives determine taste. And the ripening, often accelerated at factory cheeses, plays a big role. Gouda cheese can therefore vary enormously in quality, but there are absolutely delicious cheeses in between.
